@johnfalconer LOL! I also had a hand-held meter that took another little round battery. Take a shade reading, then a light reading and then go for the middle. =)
I almost had that happen recently. I noticed on arriving that my battery was low, switched to find my backup dead. I made it through the day being VERY discerning about what I shot, and minimizing the "on" time.
It is reassuring to know that things like that don't just happen to me.
Years ago when I had a film camera, I went to a pond a co-worker told me about. When I arrived there I saw a Heron fishing when the sun broke through the clouds and it was like he was in a spotlight. I started shooting as I inched my way closer towards him. I was so excited and couldn't wait until I could get the film developed. Days later when I passed the number of shots on the film I realized that there wasn't any film in the camera.

Hi Harry. I did have the extra battery which I though was fully charged!!! Next time I’ll check. Thanks for the much appreciated comments.
The two batteries are fully charged now (after the horse has bolted). Thanks for the much appreciated comments.
Thanks for the much appreciated comments. I’ll be back!!!
Thanks guys for your sympathy. Especially Joan with the ROLF. Very sad.
They’re now charged up and ready.
I certainly remember those little batteries. And if you didn’t have a battery you just guessed.

Thanks for the much appreciated comments. I’m sure there are dozens of stories on this forum ......
More than a little bit frustrating after carrying the monster of a camera all the way there.

Don’t mention the spare card. My spare cards are in Thailand and I’m stuck in Australia!!!
Oh well.
As I said. I’ll be back.
