I went to see this old ex-hunting lodge that the National Trust now owns. It was built in the 1600s and remains unchanged externally since then. It is only accessible by escorted visits by a NT person and only the staircase (with many 400 year old paintings hanging there) and the roof are open. The remainder of the rooms (there are 8 bedrooms, plus lounges dining rooms etc. etc.) are modernised and ordinary. However, what constitutes ordinary? The present tenant is Pete Townshend from the legendary 'The Who'.*
