I found this chap on the window of our garage, so I brought him indoors and took this pic along with a sprig of lavender from the garden. I've just looked it up on Google and see that it's a common green shieldbug.
Yes we call him a Passion fruit Vine Hopper, a sap sucker that eats the leaves, leaving a black sooty mould. Lays many eggs, we squish them so they don't take over. Smell is specific too. Nice shot of him.

Looks as though I had a lucky escape! I didn't know about the smell that this beetle could make. Happy in my ignorance ? Thanks for the warning :-)
