I spotted the ironwork on the side of this house as we were driving through Tangmere. I think the date should read 1898, but I'm not sure about the Xs and Ss

Nice find, that's something that I've noticed more about myself, I look for interesting subjects more than I used to.

@joev I definitely think that photography makes you study your surroundings more. The problem is I often wonder why things are there or who made them etc. and I seldom find the answer.

Great find, I read it as 1988 which could be the time the metal work was put in possibly to stop the wall bulging out? Just a guess!

Yes I think they are called 'tie bars' as you say to stop the building falling to bits!
