We could sail inshore of the Calshot Spit port mark as it was nearly high water. There was also a massive container ship behind us in the channel!
The mark shows a raised black ball as it is classified as an anchored vessel, having replaced the Calshot Lightship many years ago.
An early return to the River Hamble to catch the tide was a good move as it didn't start to drizzle until after we'd picked up our mooring buoy. Sitting in the rain in a small boat is not much fun.
