Waiting for the Sake of Waiting

Photographing the homeless is depressing. I avoid it. Not to mention the fact that they don't appreciate it. But this fella was doing the Freaky-Deak, with his back to me, as I approached from the distance you see in the photo. Suddenly his wild gesturing towards nobody ceased and he just calmly leaned against the fence.
I hoped I might catch him having another conniption fit after I walked past him, my back to him. I surreptitiously snapped this shot of him with the camera hanging in my hand, pointed backwards.
I then forgot about it; never even bothered to check it out- I was on the way to a doctor appointment.
Upon review of all of today's photos, this one spoke to me the loudest, although I am unclear on what it actually is saying.

Nice shot, John, and I agree with you. I'd always like to get photos of the homeless to show the desperation, etc., but I feel so guilty doing so. Such a sad part of life.

@aglennc Thanks. I see so much of it, in the environs of my neighborhood (East Village, Downtown, near Gaslamp) that I tire of it, grow calloused. Not good for my need for compassion.

I can't imagine being tired of all the photo ops in San Diego.... Wish I'd been on 365 when we lived down there. I was out and about all the time.... even though we lived out "east" -- in the San Carlos area.

@aglennc I find photo ops wherever I go. Just some are better than others.
