Rotting Gourd

I thought these things were shellacked or something. I figured they'd last forever.
I bought a couple before I went on vacation. 3 weeks later I returned home to find them rotting.
I'd purchased them to photograph; they looked better when I bought them, but here they are.
They are now in the trash....

Oh, I don't know, I kinda like them the way they are now.... rotting. We can always see them new and pristine. This is definitely interesting.
