Was 11th Avenue Once Yale Street?

There are 2 old buildings (including this one) on 11th Avenue in East Village, Downtown San Diego. The other building has an old, ornate tile entrance way that says "630 Yale". I tried Googling it but could not find anything referencing this.
Anyhow, I just like the look of this weathered sign.
