Turkey in the Straw by juliedduncan

Turkey in the Straw

I was out riding my bike today and spotted this hen turkey with FIFTEEN chicks scuttling across a newly-harvested wheat field. Not the best photos, but the size of her family blew me away! View large for a better view. :)
wow that's cool - what a lot of babes!!

@juliedduncan

Ok now you have to tell me the difference!!!!!!!!!
July 24th, 2013
@quietpurplehaze Ok- straw is the stalks left over after you harvest wheat. It's used for bedding in animal stalls, etc. No good to eat. Hay is a grass that's grown to feed animals like horses, cows, sheep, etc. :)

@juliedduncan

Thank you - i think that knowledge was buried somewhere very deep in my brain - which is suffering from the heat!!! (I think hay would surely be more comfortable for bedding than straw?!!!)

@quietpurplehaze Sure! Well, we had the heat last week and now it's perfect! Maybe our nice weather is headed your way?

@eu4ria1 Thanks! I loved how they had their heads down and were scurrying through the grass like nobody's business. Survivors, for sure! :)
