About a foot long from stem to stern. Posted a previous picture of him being held by the tail by my husband. If you try to pick one up by the shell, it will claw the living daylights out of your hands. Photo session, then release, as usual.

Impressive closeup!! We see these occasionally crossing the road on Beaver Island and it’s always a dilemma of how to protect them from other cars and stay safely enough away to not be clawed. My husband stopped his car and just waved traffic (not that much of it at the moment, thankfully) around the turtle til he made it to the other side of the road.

@taffy I know what you mean. You want to help them without sustaining life-threatening injuries - either from the turtle or from the oncoming traffic. Kudos to your husband! ;)
