Tag der deutschen Einheit

Year 2: 3/365
24 years ago two countries that never should've been parted got together again. Happy German Unity Day. ❤️
This is our national holiday. It's by far not celebrated as much as e.g. the 4th of July in the US, so no fireworks etc. but it's usually fun. We are invited to friends this evening and there is a big celebration in Hannover (not far from here) which I can't attend. :(
Instead I'm celebrating with a multiplicity picture, I'm quite addicted to those haha! This time it's taken with an app because my laptop is already packed for the vacation tomorrow. :)
Clever!

Fantastic multiplicity photo, Jule. I love the way you put these together.

I'm surprised German Unity Day isn't more widely celebrated. I remember 10/3/90 very well. Here in the States, many of us were glued to CNN watching the celebrations in Berlin. The US Congress passed a resolution signed by President Bush designating October 6, 1991 and 1992 as "German-American Day" to honor the contributions so many people of German ancestry made in the US.

I'm not sure if you've ever seen this, but there's a montage on YouTube that shows the coverage on CNN, CBS, and a couple of other US networks. It's 10 minutes long:

Anyway, Happy German Unity Day! For folks like me, born during the height of the Cold War, we join you in celebrating this amazing event. I very much agree with what you said. The two should never have been parted in the first place.

@kannafoot Thanks for sharing the video, Ron! It is celebrated indeed, but only in two places: first in Berlin of course where there is a big celebration every year and in the capital of one federal state which changes each year. It's in Hannover today, 45 minutes from here, but I have no time to go sadly :( Here in the villages it's not celebrated much though. Generally, patriotism in Germany isn't very much, probably due to historical reasons. (I mean Nazi time)...
The video is amazing. It must've been a magical night! Gonna ask my parents where they were that night, they both were about 20 :)
Happy German Unity Day to you too! I luckily was born in a united Germany and I can't even imagine it other, but for example my grandma flew from the GDR with her family when she was just 10. She doesn't remember much but what she tells doesn't seem too nice...

Very cleverly done and you can't see the join. Go on be honest, your triplets aren't you. Good capture and can I say that Germany's unity was the best thing to happen to your country.

Fun image - apt for today's Bank Holiday!

Awesome picture (in fact, my Get Pushed challenge this week is to recreate one of my Fav'ed picture that has inspired me. I Fav'ed one of your other pictures like this, so you've inspired me to try it!)! My husband and I were in Germany when they unified. It was fun watching history unfold. In fact, we still have the German flag given to us by a reveler in downtown Aschaffenburg, where we were stationed at the time. Happy Germany Unity Day!
