These planters in Seoul city center reminded me of Japanese soup bowls with farmers' hats on them. Of the several that I took, I chose this one because the straw seemed most realistically captured, despite the fact that this photo has a bus in the background! Another example of taking care of nature, even in the middle of the city.
Wonderful picture and a great and very organic / green idea. Over here we use bubble wrap and it looks an absolute eyesore. How long are you going to be in South Korea, Junko? At the moment, I can imagine it is a bit of an "interesting" place to be in, what with the North sabre rattling and all. When do you come home?
I like how the composition shows their repetition, and including the cars shows us their presence in the city--even wearing farmer's hats.
As you know in Chicago that plants are "cared for" by ripping them out and leaving empty planters for the winter, I'd much prefer this scenic option--or even bubblewrap--if it meant just letting some of the plants stay!
