If it weren't for ONS4's challenge for night photography and Get-Pushed challenge to participate in ONS, I might not have been walking around all day with my camera in my already-too-heavy bag. After a spectacular evening at the Bode Museum of sculptures, I was hurriedly heading to meet a group for dinner when I was able to snap this photo as I crossed the street. I'd seen the building in daylight before, but clearly, nighttime is the time when it glows.
I read up on the history of the synagogue, and found that it was built in Moorish style in the early 1860s by Eduard Knoblauch, whose house I had visited only a few nights ago during the Long Night of the Museum! Miraculously, the building survived Kristallnacht, and survived the war intact.
I'm glad I had my camera in hand -- but I think I'll go back with my tripod and try to be more deliberate in capturing a more thoughtfully composed image. At nighttime, again.
