This month in Berlin, each of the three opera houses has a production of The Magic Flute -- different singers, different staging, entirely different productions. This one was at the Staatsoper and used staging based on the historic version designed in 1816 by the famous architect, Karl Friedrich Schinkel.
And after seeing many versions of my practicing how-to-photograph-the-stage-with-harsh-lights-but-dark-audience and being frustrated with getting facial features washed out, I'm pretty satisfied with this photo, given the circumstances. Cheapest seat in the house, 20 euros, but only 17 rows back! Hooray for small theatres.
Great shot. You did get rid of the noise nicely, and the sharpness is still very good. Did you sneak your camera in?
Oh for small quality houses. You can't get into the Met in New York for less than $200 these days, and the New York City Opera (the Sh*tty Opera to the Met snobs) also in Lincoln Center is $100 for decent seats. You were most fortunate.
Oh wow, what a fantastic capture. Yes, you should be very happy about the results of how great this shot came out. I am drooling of envy. I must tell you a story: I was in Berlin a year ago in a restaurant, celebrating my partner's birthday, and all of a sudden I recognized that in the table across from us was Placido Domingo, the Spanish tenor... I greeted him when we stood up to go, and he was very pleasant. We spoke in Spanish, and he told me he was performing in an opera.
