Originally inspired by Nia for my get-pushed challenge to depict an image of Japan, I had shot the miniature Japanese teaset in the background. All those little pieces of Japanese tea ceremony fit inside the wooden table it sits on and the tray becomes the lid. I coveted this set growing up, and bought it with my birthday money for my 16th birthday in Nikko, Japan (originating place where these miniature tea sets were made famous). There were many things I liked about how I had shot it initially, focusing only on the Japanese set, but when Carl suggested reshooting it differently, I took over 50 different versions, and ultimately ended up with this one, which incorporates many items in my tea collection. The original challenge is over, so I've decided to include tea pots from Mexico, China, miniatures from San Francisco Chinatown, and a mate gourd with bombilla straw from Argentina as part of the composite image. Taken on the open top shelf of my tea cabinet.
Originally shot on November 16, retaken on November 17.
Note to self: dust all surrounding items, and not just the focus piece. You never know what might NOT get cropped as anticipated. :)
How appropriate is it that I am having my tea as I view this lovely shot? On that one trip I made to Japan when I was 10 years old, I went to Nikko! Ah. What wonderful tones are here. Love the narrative.
Just clicked on this as I'm taking my last sip of tea :), I'm a huge teapot so this resonates with me immediately. I am so thrilled that you loved and embraced my challenge and continue to be inspired by it. This tells a wonderful story of your history and travels. Funny I thought of our challenge today - did you ever go to a Bucees when in Texas? I was filling up today and thought now here's a shot - they must have about 100 gas tanks/fill spots.
