For decades, I've visited this piece by Edouard Vuillard, entitled, "Window Overlooking the Woods." Somehow, I felt at home with this image, although it looks nothing like any landscape of where I grew up (beaches of Okinawa, or Tokyo city) or where I live now or have ever lived. Funny how you feel at home with an image that's never been one you've actually lived. Years ago, as I was walking through the National Gallery in DC, I turned a corner, and there it was! I immediately felt like I'd encountered a friend from home. This photo was taken in its home location, The Art Institute in Chicago. I like how the modern clothing seems to be drawn out of Vuillard's palette from 1899.
I often have the same feeling in front of a certain painting, I share your emotion. I like reading fragments of your personal experience and the photo suits the mood perfectly.
