Today is the last day I'll be on 365 for a bit. I'm chair of the Caldecott Award, annually given to the most distinguished picture book of the year. I took this intentional blur picture to capture the sense of secrecy surrounding the process. You can sort of make out some of the books, and knowing what's eligible is no secret. But the process of selecting the book and honor books is very secretive, so we'll be sequestered around the clock until our decision is made.
Oh, what an deep responsibility for you... the suspense is palpable! ;) Seriously, this is a huge award in the area of literature. I read them, my kids read them, as children have for decades. I love the mystery and suspense in this shot, the privacy and the consequences. Fav. Do justice to literature!
I was instantly attracted to this photo because of all the lovely colors. It made me think of how my mom taught me to choose fabrics for a quilt.... line them up and squint my eyes to see if the colors blend well together. What a creative way of expressing your thoughts about the process of choosing the recipients of such an impressive award and congrats to you for achieving the experience necessary to be a part of that process.
Lovely picture and a clever concept to express the secrecy of what must be quite a tricky job . Sounds great, and must be really interesting. I run the library in the primary school where I work (though that's not the main part of the job). Fav
Holy COW! I just saw your name while watching the live presentation. I had no idea you were on the Caldecott committee! Well done! My kids were super excited about Beekle winning, though many had their hearts set on Sam & Dave. I'd love to hear about what the whole process was like! (Here's our kids' votes if you're curious http://www.thelogonauts.com/2015/01/caldecott2015.html )
This is a wonderful photo - not only for the amazing visual interest and pattern, for the exciting colors and the repetition, the abstract beauty - but also for the meaning...keeping a secret. Congrats to you on your important work with the Caldecott and your successful photography!

Thanks for getting your students interested in Caldecott!
