Wonderful shot Junko - how exciting to have a week with Taffy!! I wish i could have met up with her at Heathrow - she is in the UK but for such a brief time!! Have a great time - looking forward to seeing both your photos as I understand it's a very beautiful place.
I love this!!!! Sitting in Heathrow now and looking forward to getting to Wroclaw! Actually trying very hard not to fall asleep and miss my next flight -- 1 down and 2 to go!
@pamknowler It would have been fun!! I'm sure you aren't able to get away at the moment, but just in case...Junko's right -- you're very close relatively speaking!
@taffy -- I want to go back and photograph this again because I wasn't prepared, and I now know what I want to capture, the look of utter delight and wonder on people's faces when seeing massive amount of bubbles appear in the dark. I accidentally caught a few heads in my photos but the focus was on the bubbles, and it would make great spontaneous street photography. (This happens almost everyday in the Rynek so we will be sure to get there for more bubble events.)
@taffy@jyokota Oh how tempting is that!! In normal times I would have been able to do just that!! My sister has finally got her first appointment on Tuesday with the Oncologist. It's only taken four and half weeks!! So I will travel with you both (I am on your shoulders - LOL!!) and enjoy all your shots!! One day maybe I will get to Chicago - now wouldn't that be wonderful!! Safe journey Taffy!!
@pamknowler -- @Taffy and I will miss you this trip, but we look forward to seeing you in Chicago some day. And who knows, with an invitation for a photowalk in England, we always have our suitcases ready to go!
@taffy@jyokota You have both really cheered me up this morning!! I am definitely going to plan my Chicago trip - that would be a great way to celebrate!! I wish I could give Barbara something to look forward to - she is very depressed. Sorry Junko for hijacking your photo!! Take care both of you and enjoy your week!!
@pamknowler Chicago is a very easy city to celebrate it, with everything quite reachable if you two stayed in the Loop or on North Michigan. @jyokota and I would have fun planning your daily photo walks and joining you and Barbara when we could! And it's such an easy trip between the two countries, really.
@jyokota Junko, your thread has kept me entertained as I've moved from London to Warsaw! You'll like @joansmor Joan's work a lot -- didn't realize you hadn't been following her!
@taffy I have just started following @joansmor and her work is really wonderful! I created this thread and posted this photo just to keep you entertained on your way :)
This is a glorious photo Junko! It looks like a joyous event at a fairy-tale castle! As I tagged Taffy @taffy I was looking to see where else she'd shown up! Having read all the comments, I wanted Pam @pamknowler to know I'd make every effort to join you all in Chicago if she'll plan to be there. I need very little persuasion to return to this fabulous city!
@Weezilou -- that would be FUN to have a photowalk together in Chicago with @taffy and @pamknowler ! I'm presently in Poland, where this photo was taken many months ago when Taffy visited me.
@Weezilou@jyokota@pamknowler
I totally agree that this would be a VERY fun meetup. Clearly it would go over a several days! Pam, we can help you think of logical other spots where there are 365ers if you wanted to break up your time in the States, but you could easily spend a week simply in Chicago and the surrounding areas. If we time it right, we could make a holiday of it ourselves!
@taffy a week in Chicago sounds wonderful especially if you were able to join me or at least point me in the right direction. I am a bit nervous at the thought of going round a city on my own. There is no way my sister will come with me as she is not keen to fly plus she is not a photographer! Just thinking - my godson works at the university in Davis which I understand is about 10 miles from San Francisco. I wonder if I could combine a trip to see him - that would be really lovely! Just about to go to bed and guess what I will be dreaming about! Lol!
@pamknowler That would be an easy combination. There are plenty of non-stop flights from ORD to SFO and if you watch fares you could probably do as well buying one on the US site as making a combined ticket -- but worth looking into in both ways. It's about a 4 hour flight but a totally different part of the country. Ideally, you'd be able to come in when Junko and I are in town. If we plan far enough in advance, I can't imagine it wouldn't be do-able. And Louise @Weezilou would also need time to plan in advance as she'd be coming to Chicago from one of the coasts. @rosiekerr may also want to get in on this plan as we've been talking about a photo walk this winter, and I know she needs to plan fairly far out (Rosie -- could mean more than one photo trip!). We should do serious planning via email, once we know if it's 'real.' @jyokota
@taffy@pamknowler Mike Gifford comes right to mind when you say SF, and he flew to Southern California for a conference and met up with our Long Beach-to-San Diego contingent! Just winging a thought, but I'm typically free in late spring...could come to Chicago for a week, and you could fly with me to Orange County where we would see the many people there you've commented on. From there I could end yu up the coast to find your godson. This is how plans come together... (I've never wandered Chicago by myself, but transportation from place to place is pretty easy, and "when we get somewhere", we just spend a day! My favorite spots are The Art Institute/FABULOUS museum, Millennium Park, Field Museum, Michigan Avenue...well, that's for starters, not to mention Oak Park once again! Oh yes, my bags are at the ready! Say when!
@taffy@jyokota@rosiekerr@pamknowler I thought you and I were writing simultaneously Taffy! All sounds good, and I agree, if a plan begins to formulate, a round-robin email would makes things easier! Oh...I forgot another of the best and a favourite Chicago adventure, The River Architecture Cruise! It's THE BEST way to learn the history of Chicago in a fascinating way, all the while taking your photos!
@Weezilou These are all great ideas! @jyokota@rosiekerr@pamknowler
I think we should now let Pam take the lead on setting up potential dates, and then once we know, I'm happy to look into a good hotel -- or air b&b or vrbo. Lots of time to plan for that and think about the area you'd want to be (for those who need hotel).
@taffy@weezilou@jyokata@pamknowler All sounds great! It makes complete sense to let the furthest travelers pick the dates. I would love, love to walk around the Windy City with everyone. The River Cruise sounds wonderful. Enjoy your trip, @taffy and @jyokota! :) Love those "tiny bubbles!"
@rosiekerr Oh good! I was hoping you'd be interested! The trip above in Warsaw took place last spring. Louise ended up happening on it after we'd done our meetup yesterday which was great fun.
@taffy@weezilou@pamknowler@rosiekerr -- I'm already filled with anticipation! Late April to early May is a nice time to be in Chicago, SF and LA. The only really bad time on my calendar is mid-May to mid-June where I have a month blocked for a potential return to Poland (where the above photo was taken!) Of course if you all want to join me there it would be great. @Darylo has always wanted to come to Chicago to join us on a photowalk, too.
@taffy@Weezilou@jyokota@rosiekerr
I really want this to happen!! Taffy I have emailed you with my thoughts. Late April/first week in May is fine with me!! Ooh this is exciting!!
@pamknowler@jyokota@taffy That time frame would be ideal for me as well; we have some summer plans in the works for July, so this would be about perfect, and I'd want to visit Chicago by then...perhaps Ken as well... I see this working out for us! When you think you have some plans, keep me in the loop if you would!
@taffy@weezilou@pamknowler@rosiekerr -- if you want to go on the boat into the lake, (and it's really a fabulous ride) then early May might be a bit warmer, although the weather can be fickle in spring so who knows.
@jyokota@weezilou@pamknowler@rosiekerr@Darylo
Pam is looking into the first week in May, so for now you might want to mark calendars. I know she's looking into the range of options for hotel versus renting through vbro, etc. As soon as we know who to include (Louise, for sure), Pam will shift the conversation to email so we stop clogging Junko's thread and can share information more privately. Very exciting to see this taking shape!
@jyokota@weezilou@pamknowler@rosiekerr@Darylo
Oh how I wish I could do it! I'm tapped out of my fund box I think! :( I have the trip to see Junko and Taffy coming up next month, then I have Paris in June with my daughter (on a SHOESTRING budget--I'm so nervous--what have I gotten into?), and my other daughter is applying to Japanese high school for the summer--if she gets a scholarship for everything, good, if for part, well, I'm back to saving in all the corners of the earth. I will NOT rule it out though as I may be able to swing by with Mega bus or somthing! Ha. And Pam, the southern US welcomes you too. We'd even host you if you wanted. :) I love this place!
@pamknowler I am right outside of Atlanta, but my mother lives right in midtown in a lovely high rise condo (with a guest room!!). You may come anytime!
@Taffy@weezilou@pamknowler@rosiekerr@Darylo -- No "clogging" at all -- rather, all this conversation is making my photo even more bubbly -- after all, it said, "Taffy is on her way!" And now, so MANY of you are on your way! Marking the first week in May on my calendar right now.
