I went on a migrating bird walk with the Chicago Ornithological Society and it was very well attended, which means as you walk in a long line, the ones at the back can't ear what the guide is explaining. Over 30 species "seen" and heard that day, but for a photographer, being able to photograph one is the main goal. I photographed five. But walking out alone to get to a meeting in time, A Northern Flicker suddenly poked her head out of this hole not far from me, and not too high, and then flew off to get food (I presume). Must go back and check to see if there are babies poking their heads out soon! (In identifying this one I learned that a male has a red mustache and a female a yellow one)
