On a night walk in Havana one night, I came across this shiny gold car sitting in front of the Gran Teatro, an ornate concert hall. Perfectly positioned so show off foreground and background all aglow. I simply squatted down to block out all the people walking around and tried to capture the power of the car in front of me.

Thank you all for your very generous assessment and favs and for putting this on TT! I was so lucky to see a golden car sitting in front of this golden backdrop -- the only thing I had to do to the raw image was to crop it (and Jane, when I'm back on my main computer at home I will crop it on the left a tiny bit -- thanks for your comment) and lift shadows and highlight to add a little bit of glow to the scene. Cuba was a completely amazing experience. I'm not much of a people-photographer as I am awkward with photographing people and therefore they feel uncomfortable. But in Cuba, the people were full of easy smiles and seemed very comfortable -- even eager -- to be in front of a camera. So in many cases, I ended up with people looking right at me (as in the farmer at the tobacco farm) as I was photographing. I've already made plans to return to Cuba in December, but this time to the east coast. So goodbye to my Cuba series for now. Off to Italy, and then to Japan. Back to being out and about in the world.
Your Cuba series was so interesting both for the photography and because I have not travelled there. Have a great time in Italy and Japan, both places I have enjoyed. I shall look forward to the series! @jyokota
@ankers70 Thanks for your generous response to my Cuba series. As this year 11 on 365, I have been bending the rules to work on a little processing each day and improve that aspect of my photography and try to learn to be more expressive through the choices I am learning to make. Also, developing series is another goal I have for my photography in general, and to move from random photography only -- although I will always continue to do that as well.
This is only my second year so a long way to go but I am trying to go beyond opportunistic shots that I have taken all my life. I like series and I am enjoying the February FOR for the B&W emphasis.
Photography has so many roles for me: it has always been part of my journalling processes so it's a record, an aide-memoire, an artistic expression, it's family and people, and it's my 'eye' on the world. Sometimes, reconciling all those is not easy, but I am always thinking about it! @jyokota
@ankers70 -- I saw that you were doing double series -- circles within black and white so that's quite the challenge! I agree with your various roles related to photography. All we can do is to keep trying :).
