My challenge partner, Carol W, has asked me to capture "midnight" so I have been photographing all kinds of nighttime scenes in pursuit of such an image. This photo is a nighttime scene I relive every night whenever I am in Munich since I take this path home from the train station.
Two years ago, I was riding my bike (visible in the photo) along this street, at exactly this place, around 8:00 pm. I must have been hit from behind by a car and thrown from the bike in a hit-and-run accident. I didn't have my helmet on (I had spent the day in city center and was returning from an outdoor opera) and hit my head, causing TMJ injury that lasted months, and I broke my clavicle and scapula. My glasses were thrown from my head so I couldn't even get the license plate of the car, but I can still hear that car speeding up and going (the wrong direction!) on this street. Now, I always wear my helmet (even though virtually no German commuters do) and I glow as I go down the street with florescent gear.
@jyokota That absolutely meets the challenge but I am so sorry to hear about the accident and for you to have to relive it. I think of all your challenge shots for "midnight", this is the very best. It has that lonely stillness and I totally agree with what @taffy says. I can imagine that car coming into the shot and it makes me shudder.
Certainly looks and feels like midnight, and the exif info confirms it! How terrible about your accident, how could someone knock you over and leave you for dead....
@adayinmallacoota@taffy@sturnus@fishy -- thanks for your empathy! It's hard to believe that such a thing could happen on such a seemingly safe street, isn't it?
Gosh, what a terible tale. In many ways you were very lucky, though I guess you didn't feel so at the time. A very eerie suburban image that could be any street, anywhere.
And yes, @synke, absolutely get that helmet and wear it! I wore mine all over Berlin and left it with a friend there who did not have one. I'm really lucky that all I got on my head was TMJ injury, but even that was bad enough. I couldn't open my mouth wide enough to put a cherry with a pit in it. I also chipped several teeth and had to have them repaired.
Great shot, great response to the theme. I voted for you!
PS Yunko, pity you're not in Chicago!!! I'm enjoying this fabulous city very much indeed! :((
It's supposed to be miserably hot tomorrow but only about 20% chance of rain. Tonite was VERY odd!! Lets check on around 1:30. I am in meetings til then. @mara19500

And yes, I am very sad that you are in Chicago when I am not. I hope you are meeting up with @taffy.
