Black and White of Green Veggies?

Does it work as a b&w? I posted the color version here: http://365project.org/jyokota/365/2014-02-04

But I'm participating in the Black and White BookClub and the only photos I took this day was various versions of my husband cooking my favorite veggie dish (well, one of my favorites, anyway). I chose this one to turn into b & w because it has more than the food alone, which felt more "real" to me in color. This one shows the act of cooking, of which the food is the object and not the subject.

I've been reading about Black and White as Normality, and how color conveys important information, for example, green (which is apparently made of 375 nuances) is limited by how much of those nuances can be conveyed in color vs how much can be conveyed in black and white. The books has a 2013 copyright -- how quickly will that change when viewed on high quality glass screens vs when printed with chemicals on paper?

I like it and am quite surprised but it works for me!

Beautiful picture.

It works as an example of b&w documenting normality. There is something profound in this day to day activity that is actually beautifully balanced.

I agree that the b&w works here because it is documenting an activity - I don't think it would work as a pure food shot without the extra elements.

I agree, the color places emphasis on the food whereas the bw more on the act of cooking. Great comparison!
