"These species are not inherently bad. They are just in the wrong place." (David Lodge) Dog fennel is considered an invasive species but is native to Georgia and the rest of the southeast USA. It supposedly has an unpleasant odor if crushed and contains poisonous alkaloids.
@marlboromaam I found this along our hiking trail and the Seek APP identified it as dog fennel but it looks quite different than the photo you posted recently. Do you think it is dog fennel?
@k9photo It looks like young dog fennel. Did you crush a leaf in your hand? It's a natural insecticide when it's NOT blooming and smells like it. All the dog fennel around here is blooming now and their scent reminds me of baby powder and it carries on the breeze. The pollinators love it when it's blooming - not so much when it's not. However, spiders will weave egg orbs within the delicate thin leaves in summer.
