following on from the previous picture, Becks was to the left of Duncan Hardie which is coming down too, and the one to the right is being built next to that after another demolishing earlier in the year... , you can see the inspiring new architecture... not!
The thing with Greymouth is that the older buildings dont meet new earthquake standards without a lot of money spent on them and because it is all Maori Lease land the building owners didnt see value in up-keep. The Maori Mawhera inc, is building the new one themselves.
Interesting to read, it’s the same here… I always feel disappointed when different cultures can’t do the right thing? the legality of it here is not an option. Power to the Māori company - they should be proud.
