sunrays at sunset

deliberate under-exposure , I find this essential at this time of day otherwise the hightlights burn out. I also boosted the contrast a bit to make the most of the light rays . This worked far better changing to greyscale in raw processing than just putting a black and white filter over top, as then I could control what happened to the yellow and orange, and also darkened the bits of blue sky above, again to maximise the upward light rays. The foreground is a little dark but that was all the fiddling I could muster :)

just thought to enter the song challenge also with this for these two lines from A Wonderful World
The bright blessed day,
The dark sacred night.
Marvellous shot! Love the processing, the rays are wonderful and I like the darker foreground which lightens to the sky... fav.

one of the most perfect shots ive seen of yours so far. you are, to me now, known for a rather piquant definition in these shots (though ill knock off a few points for contrast boosting here, in a half-joking manner, hah).

simply a spectacular scene...cloud, sunshine, and daybreak/dayend shots to me depend heavily on location and the utilitarian framing of that location, and i feel like the compositional elements (offshore rocks, significant beachhead, offset horizon, cloud size and shape, skyspace for highlighting the impact of rays, etc) come together inextricably to create a timeless moment, and a place that becomes elevated into an archetypal idea upon viewing. you seem to work a lot with less substantial light, and i think 'under'exposing is a strength of yours.

boosting contrast is generally an epiphan.... I was going to say epiphanatic experience trying to be clever making up a word, but then I looked it up and got this
"Epiphanatic
A person who can only grasp a tiny flicker of brilliance because they refuse to allow truth to enter their mind, and believing they are enlightened, must turn to fanatacism for comfort and praise. " hahahahahaha
