this week in macro march is bucket list shots, I have been dying to try out my son's camera with the extension tubes, took lots of shots of teeny tiny things, its spellbinding looking through that viewfinder, however, just about all the shots were blurry! Man the narrow depth of field is a killer, I would see it sharp in the viewfinder but by the time I clicked the shutter focus was lost. I have manually sharpened this in post-production to within an inch of it's life!
@steampowered first time using this camera, I just used the viewfinder, asat least then I could then brace the camera against my face! my other camera has liveview and a folding lcd screen, I use it allllll the time.
macro tubes and converters can be even more complicated to control (especially the focus/blur factor) than dedicated macro lenses, so i understand the frustration. the make-up sharpening puts me off a bit, naturally, but i like your idea for framing and subject here, and think you will capture images closer to your ideal in the future if you keep up with it.
Fantastic is right, I viewed it large -- whoa, baby...I'm going to have nightmares featuring green alien creatures... :-)
Well, it's well past midnight on Sunday and I've not completed the challenge you gave me. The club centennial event next Sunday that I'm helping to coordinate has me really crazy (partially due to disorganization and procrastination...) But, anyway, I'd really like a rain check on that. I really like and want to do that challenge and didn't want to just grab some things, throw them together and take a snap. Sometime soon I will do that memento mori still life, and will tag you when I post it.
@ubiquitybutsomewhatdownsized is that just on priciple o do you think the sharpening looks fake? I don't think I could have sharpened it and have it look fairly natural unless it was nearly there,
@kali66 ah, that was ambiguous of me, yes. im sorry, i meant my own natural inclination is to be put off by sharpening that cannot truly make up for a blurred focus, and also sharpening that ends up exaggerating grain and highlights in a way that works against the feel or natural expression of the photograph. you were in a pickle, so i tried to communicate that i didnt count it against you.
