Because I didn't think quick enough to use my flash to compensate for the backlighting, I equalized the photo to bring out the squirrel. Thus, the surreal look of the surroundings. It's atypical of my style to keep nature looking as untouched as possible, but I kinda like the end result. View enlarged for better appreciation.
Yes, a bit surreal -- makes an interesting effect, though. I wonder how it would look if it were possible to leave the tree & leaves that way, but erase from around the squirrel (photoshop?) -- leaving it with a clean normal look, contrasting with the non-normal surrounding?
Funny thing, when I first glanced at it on my home page and small (and before seeing who posted it) I thought it was a treed bear! On second glance, I saw it was Kareen -- not likely to be a bear in Kansas -- and read the commentary. :-)
@mcsiegle Thanks for your thoughtful input, Mary. Unfortunately, I don't have any knowledge on how to do any complex editing in Photoshop. But I like your idea. I'm hoping to take a Photoshop class next Spring.
It is so cute, I never saw squirrel in real life, I don’t think they exist in New Zealand. Have to travel to States one day to search for it. I like your post processing.
This looks really great! I love the vibrancy of the green contrasting with the white and grey. Really makes the squirrel stand out. Lovely composition too :)
