As my husband and I got off the plane today there was a big Welcome Home sign and a couple hundred individuals that were from all walks of life waiting for a young man on our plane. (my husband said get your camera)
There was a big presence from the military. Some of the veterans from many different wars, were also motorcyclist.
This was a very touching scene, everyone was lined up standing to attention saluting this young man.
It turns out two days before he was scheduled to return home from his deployment, he was shot by a member of the Afghan police that he was training overseas.
He has spent months in the hospital. As he left the airport with his family, the police led an escort followed by about 75 motorcyclist and trucks with American flags.
Each life is fragile as we have seen this week. May we be gentle and kind to all we meet.
Welcome home, soldier! (is that him in the top photo?)
So heartwarming and moving.
Talk about 'right time, right place' for you. What a wonderful thing to witness.
I'm glad you put together a collage, instead of trying to choose just one photo. Well done!
@pasadenarose that is him in the top photo. You are right it was nice to be in the right place. But I was really disappointed in my focus and lighting. It has made me more determined to learn more about how to make good decisions and adjustments quickly with my camera. This was the first collage I ever made so thanks for commenting on that.
Kathy, that's one thing this project does. By 'forcing' us to take a photo EVERY day, we can't help but become more familiar with our cameras.
Then in addition, most of us have a desire to put forth some level of extra effort to improve our skill. You've already taken a photography course, so you are ahead of some of us, including me. ;-)
I'm still very much a beginner, but I've already grown since being on this site. When I first became aware of 'a photo a day' projects, it sounded IMPOSSIBLE. Amazing how many limitations we choose to place on ourselves.
And you're doing GREAT. Heck, you already have one of your photos on PP.
Wow what an incredible college and touching story! Great job on putting this together! What fantastic timing for a moment you'll always remember :) Lovely shot!
