Invasion

I am not sure what these are. We called them love bugs when I was growing up. They come all at once and are everywhere.
Wow! With those bright orange flashes they are probably evil tasting to most predators but they make a great photo opportunity.

Great colours but I've no idea what they are?

neat picture - these are probably in the insect family Lygaeidae (Seed Bugs). The orange pattern is different than the ones I see here but the structure is the same. We call them milkweed bugs. Check out www.bugguide.net for more info.

@sharontakade Thanks Sharon! That is a great website! You are probably correct. On a quick search I did not see the exact bug. Thanks for the info.

@jodimuli Thanks for that website Joey! That sounds like what they are! Now you can officially call them love bugs since the internet did. The internet never lies! haha!

Box Elder Bugs (or Box Elder Beetle...both are common names) .........I studied entomology in college. You must have a Box Elder Maple tree in your yard or nearby. They migrate to these trees every year to mate and have their young.

......and feed on the seeds of the box elder tree. Good luck! They're a real pain, especially on the south side of your house on warm days. Nice shot of them though!

So, I now know what's bugging you! You know summer is on the way when bugs show up. Lucky you!
I am still knee deep in snow.

@tjs_world_part_2 Oh Thanks for the information! We live by the water and have lot of Box Elder trees. How interesting that you studied entomology! Thanks for clearing up what these little guys are! I will study them and look at my trees closer.

@daffodill Haha! I know what you mean, they are not very pretty! They are really just a nuisance because they attache to the house.
