the hat..... the story...

This is my hat. This is the story of my hat.
When I was about 11 years old, my Mom knitted me a hat to wear to school to keep me warm. She always knitted us hats or scarves. I hated the hat! I would wear it to the end of the street (where Mom could see me) and as soon as I got around the corner I would whip it off and stuff it into my bag. After all it wasn't trendy and I was desperately trying to be. I would then do the same thing on the return trip home. I hadn't really thought about it since then.

Last month when I was clearing our my parents home, I opened a dresser drawer and there it was. Just on its own in a drawer. Mom had kept it all these years and probably thought I loved it as I wore it all winter for her. I almost burst into tears just seeing it.
I brought it home with me and it now is one of my most precious belongings. I've even wore it when it was cold recently and realized how warm it kept me.

Thank you Mom for the hat, for the time it took you to knit it, the thought that went into it and for keeping it for me as you knew it would be a precious reminder of a mothers love.

Really great capture of this hat. Love the way you displayed it and composed it. The story is great and makes my heart ache just alittle - so many similar memories.

Kim, this brought tears to my eyes. I have an identical story. My mom made hats for all the kids in the family. I was the only one that would wear them. I still have a collection .
