We had two small lambs born a few days apart in October last year. We called the stronger one Guinea and the smaller one Snow. Both were rejected by their Mums. So we bottle fed then, around the clock for months.
This one is Snow. He is currently 6 and a half months old. We thought he would be the one who struggled to survive, but it was Guinea who passed away at only 5 and a half months old, just over 4 weeks ago. She was beautiful our Guinea, but she was obviously destined for greater things.
Now, even though Snow is amongst the rest of our sheep, he still keeps coming to the gate where we used to feed him. He is always on the lookout for me or the girls. He is slowly growing and has come on leaps and bounds in the last few months, but you can tell he misses Guinea. They had a once in a lifetime bond.
Today I am thankful for...
The love of a sheep, who still thinks we are the most important things in the world. No matter when we go out into the garden or up to the vegetable patch, he will always come running if he see's or hears us. Being so tiny when he was rejected, he developed a soft 'Baa' that he still uses even today and it melts my heart when ever I hear him calling out to me. If only I could find a way to have him enjoy more time with us. As he does so enjoy our company. Do you think I could take him on a lead and walk him at the dog park?
Snow has a wistful expression that perfectly matches your description. The positioning of fence line down the nose is an interesting compositional choice. So sorry about Guinea... I love your idea of taking Snow for a walk @ the dog park... not sure that the dogs at the park would behave well.
Wonderful back-story and what a difficult journey, but that look definitely says it all. You and the girls should be very proud of all your efforts. I love the idea of taking him out on a leash! 🐑💕🍼
A beautiful shot of Snow and a wonderful narrative. Have you thought of writing a book? You have such a wonderful way with words that touches the heart.
I expect you could! I have fed many a pet lamb & know they never forget you even when back with the main flock. Sad about Guinea, they would be great mates. Snow has a lovely face....you do realise she will be with you forever...lucky she’s a ewe so can earn her keep! Our Henry was with us 11 years as we could never send him in to be someone’s dinner. Long term followers of me will remember Henry!
So sorry for your loss :( I love animals with everything I have, its always so hard to say goodbye to one. these little guys have such a great personality, my friend has one and I go by her house the time for kisses, well I went before this crazy pandemic. fantastic capture
Oh, what a sweet little boy- he remembers how much you cared for him to give him a chance at life. I think he will be your pal forever! Why not take him for a walk- sounds like fun! Good shot.
oh … it was sad to read about Guinea. Having got so far that he should not survive. But lovely to read about your bond with Snow. Hope all goes well with him.
