Southern Cassowary - Australian Species

This guys usually lives in the dense wet tropical rainforests of north-east Queensland in Australia. He happens to be the third largest bird in the world, weighs around 44 kilos and is a flightless bird.

The Cassowary has only three toes on each foot, which have very sharp claws. He has a life span of around 40 to 50 years and is a direct descendent of the dinosaurs.

Unfortunately The Southern Cassowary sits on the 'Endangered list'. You can learn more about this beautiful animal here if you are interested - https://www.rainforestrescue.org.au/save-the-cassowary/

I am grateful that I was able to meet this beautiful animal and learn more about it and how I can help in its survival.

I remember when we’ve been to Australia, we really wanted to see one but we ended going to a park to be able to see two, and learn about their “disappearance “... sad because it is a spectacular big bird !
