Lady Snowbird by khawbecker

Lady Snowbird

The Dark-eyed Junco, or Snowbird, winters in Virginia each year. The fact that they are still here indicates that Spring has not quite arrived yet. The male has very dark feathering and a bright white underbelly. The female, as pictured here, has more muted coloration. The snowbirds will likely fly north beginning in early April, not to return again until October or later.
Great capture!
Love the detail.

I love these plucky little birds....they look so petite & delicate they are obviously very hardy as I've seen out and about carrying on as usual even on our coldest days that were well below zero. You really captured every single detail on this little guy!

@lauriehiggins Thanks, Laurie. I didn't realize at first that I was looking at a female snowbird until the male bird landed near her.

@ladymagpie Ha! My apologies, Heather. :) This snowbird is only aspiring to be a lady, of course. She's an American after all. He he.
