Rippon Lodge by khawbecker

Rippon Lodge

This is the oldest house in Prince William County, Virginia. Built in 1747 by Richard Blackburn, it was the center of a thriving tobacco plantation overlooking Neabsco Creek, Occoquan Bay, and the Potomac River in the distance. The tobacco was shipped by way of the then port town of Dumfries. Richard Blackburn's son Thomas was the second owner of the house and served in the militia during the Revolutionary War as George Washington's aide. Thomas's daughter, Julia Ann, married George Washington's nephew, Bushrod Washington, who inherited Mount Vernon.
A wonderful bit of history. Thank you for sharing the lovely story and capture.
