I visited Leesylvania State Park this afternoon for my photo walk. This pathway meanders through a wooded area near the Potomac River. The park is named after the plantation house built by Henry Lee II on this property in 1747. He and his wife raised their eight children here, including Henry "Light-Horse Harry" Lee III, who was the father of Robert E. Lee. George Washington mentioned visiting the Lee house three times in his diary. Only the site of the house remains and the cemetery where Henry Lee II and his wife are buried.
Thanks for the history on the Lee family. I do know that Arlington was a Lee property. A great capture which makes you want to walk down the path. A fav.
@congaree I think you're right about them being tulip trees. When I'm there next, I'll double check. Fortunately, this trail is not far from where I live.
