Ripening Pokeberries by khawbecker

Ripening Pokeberries

I could wait no longer to show how the pokeberries look when they ripen. The birds are already snacking on them.

Here is my earlier photo: http://365project.org/khawbecker/365/2014-07-31
Oh, I love poke-berries! I had never heard of them until a couple of years ago and now am fascinated by them! Yours are beautiful!

@stownsend Thanks, Suzie! And thanks for the follow! Have you tasted a pokeberry? I understand they're edible, but one site online discourages eating them and says they can cause intestinal upset. Hmm. Not sure what to believe. I love the way they look though.

Quite a change in both colour and shape from the earlier picture. I like the way this shot shows some still unripe berries as well as the dark, glossy ripe ones. I also like the pink stems. Nice focus and light.

@maggiemae Thank you, Maggie! It depends on what you read on the internet. Some sites advocate eating these for their antioxidants. Others warn everyone away because they say they cause intestinal discomfort. I haven't tested them myself to find out who's right.

@virtualbrownie Thank you! There seems to be a draw online about whether these berries are edible. I haven't been brave enough to find out for myself who's right.

I put poke berries on my site today and when I checked the tag to see if anyone else had ever done that I was surprised to learn I was not alone.
