A Return to Springfield by khawbecker

A Return to Springfield

Last May, I visited many historical sites associated with my hero, Abraham Lincoln. I had to wait many years before I could visit Springfield, Illinois, where Lincoln's house is. I enjoyed my visit immensely and took many pictures that I didn't get to share last year during my 365 project. This is one of my favorite photos, showing the Lincoln home on the left and part of the neighborhood as well. The National Park Service replaces that little tree every few years so that it is always the size it was when Lincoln left for the presidency.
Beautiful shot.

Never seen this before - a house full of character! I expect nobody lives in it now!

HDR is something people seem to either love or hate. For me it often produces enjoyable images that other processing methods cannot match. I enjoy the almost drawing like feel of your image and the great tonal range.

As Bob said, it has a drawing like feel. Lovely colors and idyllic shot. I'm originally from Illinois, and always a fan of Springfield!

@nicoleterheide Thanks, Nicole! In May, the Spring green really pops to begin with before I touch it with any HDR processing.

@crethar Thanks, Hugh!

@maggiemae That's right, no one lives there now. It's a museum and open for tours. It's furnished with original pieces. Lincoln's desk is still there upstairs in his bedroom where he burned the midnight oil often. It's great to see.

@carlt Thanks, Carl.

@bob65 It's true about HDR, Bob. When I first started 365, I didn't like it. It has kind of grown on me. In some photos, it works and others, not at all. I liked the effect here. I also processed this photo with a little tilt-shift to give greater focus to the Lincoln Home doorway. I wanted the viewer's eye to be led to the doorway, as if to expect Mr. Lincoln to appear there. Thanks for your positive feedback!
