Olmsted's Summer House by khawbecker

Olmsted's Summer House

Frederick Law Olmsted, who designed Central Park in New York City, also designed this little building in Washington D.C., known as the Summer House. It houses a natural spring and sits on the northwest corner of the U.S. Capitol grounds. The building was completed in 1881. For a photo of the Capitol building taken from inside the Summer House, see: http://365project.org/khawbecker/365/2014-03-22

Fascinating story and a beautiful shot. I just finished a book in which Olmsted was central to the story. About his designs for the Chicago World's Fair at the turn of the century in early 1900's.

This one is equally beautiful.....it gives a totally different view of the Capitol building than we're used to seeing. Thank you for taking the time to give us some background on this....it's fascinating reading for me! :)
