Battle of High Bridge by khawbecker

Battle of High Bridge

This bridge is the site of one of the final battles of the American Civil War as General Lee and his army attempted to escape to the west from Petersburg before their ultimate surrender to General Grant at Appomattox Court House. The bridge was heavily damaged during the battle, but was rebuilt to its original dimensions after the war. Today, the bridge is part of a 31-mile bike and walking trail in the High Bridge Trail State Park.
Great looking bridge but I love the history attached to it

@bkbinthecity Thank you! I hiked out to this bridge today for photos and because curiosity was killing me. I'd read about this bridge and seen some photos, but wanted to get a sense of the height myself. It's quite a remarkable long bridge, dripping with history. Thanks for the fav too!

@thresheg Thanks, Graham. I wish there was a better vantage point from a distance, but the trees make it impossible. Thanks for the fav!
