Homemade Lava Lamp

It's sleepover night with our grandson and we were doing some fun science things. This is just oil and water (with some food colouring) but when you put salt on top it makes the oil bubble down and back up, like a lava lamp. My grandson is holding a flashlight underneath to get the full effect.
