6th September

Day 6 - Childhood memory. Today Reuben started kindergarten... for the second time. He started in Australia back in Feb 2010 and did one month there before we moved to Canada. Now he's finally got the chance to start in kindergarten over here. At first I felt bad that he had to wait so long to start. But I soon realised that he was being given a gift of time, time to be a child and enjoy life. He has certainly changed and grown up a lot in the last 19 months. Still has his same cap though!! I remember a photo of myself on my first day of school, but I didn't have it here or I would have added it to this! I went to school in NZ, where you start on your 5th birthday. I sat at the table with the "little daisies" and as you progressed in your first year you moved up to the "big daisies" then "buttercups" and then "sunflowers".
very cool shot! 19 months is a lot time to enjoy time off and free play as opposite to very structuralised in school and preschool settings! I'm sure he will enjoy more all the learning now :) here children go to preschool when they are 3 or 4 nd to school between 4 and 5... way to early...

@kammy Thanks Kammy. When I look back at all he's done in that time I realise again how lucky he's been. It's hard when you have three small kids to look after, but it's a once in a lifetime opportunity too, and one I will never forget. Where abouts are you?

@kammy It's been amazing. Over here you can put your children into a paid preschool at 3 or 4 if you wish, but the year they turn 5 determines when they start school (or rather kindergarten). This is actually the first year of full time kindy for 5 year olds in BC. Last year they did 5 half days.

Too cute. Lots of research shows that boys in particular benefit from being kept out of school for as long as possible, so you are right on trend!
