We spent the day on Kapiti Island with my brothers family and the Science faculty at WHS. It's an 8km long island about 5km off the Kapiti coast. It's also a nature reserve where they have eradicated all pests such as rodents and possums. So there are many rare birds to be seen. The Kaka is a native NZ parrot that is endangered. They are rather cheeky, and come looking for food when the tourists visit.
Thats a special island to tour - you have to go on a tour to do this, don't you! That kaka is similar to the pesky kea but the latter is only found in the South island amazingly!
