The Avon River flows through the centre of Christchurch New Zealand
very pretty! Love the bridge reflection.

Lovely shot. The Avon remains beautiful even in the most devastated parts of Christchurch. The reflection is lovely.

@witchyjacq I've just come back from a 10 day holiday in the lovely south island. So sad to see all the devastation in Christchurch.
February 28th, 2013
@kjarn It is sad to see it but I am sure you would have noticed that the rebuild is starting and people are quite positive now about the future. I hope you enjoyed your time in the South Island and managed to get over to the West Coast which I think is the most beautiful part! :)

@witchyjacq I certainly did notice and I managed to talk to a lot of native Christchurchians who are all very positive, great to see. I did get over to the west coast which is very beautiful. Trying to choose one photo per day to put on here is proving very difficult.

lol I bet it is. It is always difficult picking out your best holiday shots no matter where you have been. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. :)

So beautiful - the long grass is very elegant.

Oh now that brings back wonderful memories! So glad to see it survived.
We keep thinking of going back but I'm not sure how upsetting I'd find it.

@humphreyhippo I wouldn't be going back just yet, it looks like a war zone - very very sad.
March 1st, 2013
@kjarn We have friends there and the pictures are so sad. The photos of whole streets levelled are frightening. Still, as you say, they do seem positive about the future. I hope they rebuild the cathedral.
March 1st, 2013
@humphreyhippo from what I've seen, read and heard it looks like its getting more likely it will be pulled down rather than fixed and it seems that a huge number of residents don't want it to be rebuilt or at least not in the same place.

What a gorgeous place! It looks so peaceful and I just love all the reflections and all the green!

A fav! Lovely, soft and dreamy shot. Is that something swimming in the river? I can't zoom in well enough. Looks like an otter type animal.

@kazlamont its a duck in the river and thank you for the fav.

Glorious shot Kathy!

Beautiful. I love the reflections in the water. NZ water looks a lot clearer than Aus water.

I remember it well! Did u go for a ride in the gondola thingys?
July 1st, 2013
@tabbycat had to settle for a punt ride as the gondola hasn't resumed running after the earthquake.
July 1st, 2013
@kjarn Oh, that's what I meant! In Italy, they call punts "gondolas"
