A general fiction that was an interesting read but a bit too wordy/long
An autobiography that was interesting and funny in parts
A chick lit that was an easy enjoyable read
A mystery/thriller that I really enjoyed
A psychological thriller that was a good read with lots of twists and turns
A crime story that wasn't as enjoyable as her previous books - hard to get into
Well done on getting such a variety of reading done in the lead-up to Christmas. I've recently been reading Elly Griffiths, The Zig Zag Girl and have thoroughly enjoyed it.
An interesting assortment of books. I've read two of the authors but none of these books. BTW, the Anne Tyler book in the photo this week (Saint Maybe) wasn't the best book I ever read. I wanted to finish it, but it didn't have a rousing plot. More like a slice of life in this family. If you want to try this author, check out another book.
@randystreat Kathy, I so relate to wanting to finish a book, even if i don't really like or enjoy it. My friend says why bother when there are soooo many books out there. Yet I can't help it... but it is a piece of advice i often think about and rarely follow.
@kjarn To be really honest, to me, it only happened once 😃. The others were really just not worth to the last page. But i just would not trust my gut. Even if statistically that advice is really good.
@monikozi Folks in the book club I belong to say to read the same number of pages are your are old. If you don't like it move on to another book. A lot of time it takes at least 100 pages. Depends what I'm reading the book for (pleasure vs. book club vs. education) whether I'll finish a book or not.
@randystreat Well, that's a good advice. The thing is that I need to trust my gut and not feel sorry if I don't read a book. There are so many others I don't read. And it's nit like giving up reading altogether.
I was very happy when my son first told me he was not going to read a book because he did not like it. I was content he was able to choose.
It's nice to be in a book club. We don't do that here.
@randystreat I agree that it takes at least 100 pages to start to know if the book is going to be good or not. I think I've only given up on a couple of books in my time, and they were books I didn't like right from the start. I keep going with most undecided books as I keep thinking they will get better but unfortunately most don't. I have hundreds of books to read so I really should start trusting my gut.
@monikozi The book club makes me read books I wouldn't ordinarily read. And I make an effort to finish those books. Too bad you don't have one. Maybe some friends and you could get together and start one. They are fun.
We always have to wait down under for the new 365 year to begin 😂
In December I read Shōgun by James Clavell. A rollercoaster.
