Even though it's not such a cute shot without his face, you can see how dense koala fur is. They can sit in the pouring rain and for the most part it just runs off them, or soaks into the top couple of mm but not through to the skin
This beautiful fur is what brought an end to our koala population in the 1930s. So Manny were shot for their skins then disease hit them and by the 1940 they had disappeared from our valley. Very sad. This is why we need more people like you helping these beautiful animals.

My daughter and her boyfriend visited a Koala Habitat last week in Australia. It was her life long dream.

@ubobohobo oh it's just beyond imagining isn't it Margaret? They were killed by the MILLIONS. Now we don't know how many we have in Australia, the figures guessed range from 40,000 - 70,000. That is a very small number considering how long the east coast ranges so the situation is serious indeed!

@hermann @kchuk @loweygrace thanks for commenting!
Lois thanks for the new following, I hope you enjoy the photos I put up. Regenerating habitat is just so extremely important and I'm passionate about it. I hope your daughter got some good photos while over here :)
