Maxine is turning out to be a delight to photograph when I catch her awake. I read and appreciate every comment made here - thank you for being a part of my project :)
@pixiemac they do look cuddly :) a hand raised koala in a zoo can be held and 'cuddled' tho they don't usually enjoy it much and it stresses them. so these koalas usually only live a few years.
the koalas here are wild animals, so they won't let a person approach them too closely and would not tolerate being touched. trying to pick up a wild koala can result in serious injury as their claws and teeth are very long and sharp
and yet, amazingly, sick koalas often seek people out, even though they have never had contact with one before. very often, once in an enclosure they will tolerate eye treatments and injections and many things as though they know we are helping them. however ALWAYS, picking one up involves knowing what you are doing and how to do it to avoid injury from those claws. I love the way they look like toys, but are actually wild and free :) thanks for asking about them, I love curiosity!
