https://youtu.be/O8SbdLj7Oj8 for some video of how strong a mother koala is with a baby on back. Thank you for the many lovely comments and awesome questions. The joeys are growing so fast, and most of the mums probably have been mated again now.
@fbailey mostly they are anything from 20 - 50m high up in a tree and I can be some distance from the tree when I photograph.
wild koalas don't become tame, but a sick koala will usually, amazingly, submit to being treated including eye treatments.
I work with them voluntarily at our rescue/rehab centre as koalas are facing extinction and disappearing fast. We have to be very careful not to 'tame' them at all as they need to be released to the wild. A 'tamed' koala however would only mean it would possibly approach people or not run away from them. Koalas are lone animals, they are very stressed by a lot of attention, and they detest being handled or held. If you see photos of people holding them in zoos they have been sedated to tolerate this and suffer from the attention.
They are quite fascinating and I'm always content to observe from a distance, though getting a clear view through is quite a thrill. So often they are behind bunches of leaves lol
