This time it's Racee and her little bundle.
Over the next few weeks the joeys will gain a lot of muscle and weight and be out riding on mums back all the time. I think this one is the oldest of the 3 joeys on the property, maybe by a few weeks. It's so hard to be exact when they do such a good job of keeping things hidden!
Thank you for the awesome questions and comment son my photos.
@fbailey there are 3 adult females in the colony - Maxine (yesterday), Racee (this one) and Stevie, and they all have joeys again. Racee and Maxine are on their 3rd joeys, while Stevie is younger and on her 2nd.
Wow! I agree with everyone, it is wonderful to see the new joeys! (Please remind me again, how long they may have been in the pouch? It’s been a couple of months since they were newly born, correct?)
@fr1da koalas are very fecund as a rule. however in this area chlamydia is endemic but I'm very lucky that my colony has very little infection. I hope some studies can be done down the track a little to show that high quality and quantity habitat has a correlation to them fighting chlamydia (which we believe is a secondary stress response to habitat loss)
You are doing amazing work
