Finally a shot showing all the molars! You can just see her top 2 incisors, and the bottom 2 are prominent. They then have a gap, no second incisors or canines. The black covering her teeth is perfectly normal. We age koalas by feeling the ridges on the molars, and visually I can see they are still obvious and sharp (she is 4-5 years old)
@carole_sandford - yes, this is part of why all their communication is through smell, as the hard palate and tongue are big receptors and with the ridges on both palate and tongue, the surface area is greatly increased. their sinus structure is insane, nearly all above the eyes behind the forehead (they have quite small frontal lobes)
@shutterbug49 yes, if you look up higher at a reply I made to Carole I talk about the palate and tongue ridges and the extra surface area they create for enhancing their olfactory functions (the way they use smell for everything)
What an education I can always find on any day I read 365! This is a sight I suspect none of us has ever seen! You're a wealth of fascinating information!
