The lapwings are related to the wading birds such as the Dikkop from SA that is often shown so beautifully here by @ludwigsdiana
They look quite different, but they behave in a similar way nesting on the ground.
I had to take this from quite a distance as mine do not let me at all close
They are strange birds aren't they. Didn't realise they are related to the dikkop
